Refrigerator Maintenance Tips
Coils
Keep coils clean, use a coil brush or compressed air (office supply stores sell compressed air in cans).
Door Seals
Clean door seals are important. Sticky seals, or door frames can damage the door seals. They can be easily cleaned with soap & water or a spray cleaner.
Water Hose to Refrigerator
Stainless steel water hoses to are strongly recommended. This is a braided hose found at any hardware or appliance store.
Food Storage
Heavy things stored in doors of a refrigerator, or a freezer, is not recommended. Hinges can become damaged over time and the door won't close properly or at all.
Storing a Refrigerator
When storing a refrigerator for even a few days it is recommended that you leave the doors open at least an inch. The fan motor and thermostat, that is located inside the refrigerator, can rust when doors are shut.
Moving a Refrigerator
When moving the refrigerator, it is recommended to keep the unit upright. There is oil in the compressor that can clog the filter and obstruct the freon flow resulting in a warm refrigerator.
Discarding a Refrigerator
When discarding a refrigerator, remove the doors to protect small children from becoming trapped. Most recycle places will take discarded refrigerators.
Temperature
The temperature should be around 0 degrees in the freezer and around 38 degrees in the refrigerator. If the freezer is above 7 degrees after several sample checks, try cleaning the coils, or making a small adjustment to the temperature control. If the refrigerator is above 42 degrees, clean the coils or make a small adjustment to the temperature control.
Adjusting the Settings
Adjusting the freezer and refrigerator control settings can be tricky. We recommend that you make adjustments in small increments. If you adjust the freezer control, you might limit the air-flow to the refrigerator. Depending on the model, most adjustments can affect more than just what you are trying to adjust.
